Course Development Grant in Southeast Asian Studies
The Southeast Asian and ASEAN Studies (SEAS) Program housed in the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies is pleased to announce Course Development Grants for the revision of existing upper-level (300- or 400-level) undergraduate courses taught in any department in the College of Arts and Sciences to include significant (50% or more) content related to any aspect of Southeast Asian studies, including Southeast Asian diaspora populations.
Funding for these grants is generously provided by the Center for the Study of Global Change.
Grant Details:
- Purpose: These grants are intended to expand curricular offerings in Southeast Asia & ASEAN Studies, especially courses that contribute to the SEAS minor, by integrating content related to Southeast Asia into existing 300- and 400- level courses.
The courses for revision may be taught in any department or program in the College of Arts and Science, including the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture, and Design; the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies; and the Media School.
- Content Requirement: Courses must include 50% or more Southeast Asian content, broadly construed. Course proposals focused on diaspora populations in the United States must include at least 25% international or global content.
Preference will be given to courses that are taught regularly (at least once every two years). For courses taught less frequently, we ask for a commitment from the faculty member (and department chair) to consistently offer the revised course going forward.
- Grant Amount: Grant recipients will receive $1,000. SEAS expects to award a total of four grants.
- Eligibility: Open to all tenured and tenure-track faculty and permanent lecturers (including librarians) teaching in any discipline in the College of Arts and Sciences, including the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture, and Design; the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies; and the Media School.
We welcome applications from faculty currently engaged in Southeast Asian studies as well as those working in adjacent areas who wish to expand their expertise to include Southeast Asia.
Timeline: We are accepting applications on a rolling basis, but preference will be given to proposals submitted by the priority deadline.
- Priority deadline: February 1, 2025.
The application period will close on August 1, 2025.
Submission Requirements:
- Applicant name, department, and title
- Current CV

- If known, please include when you expect the course to run next.

- A description (max 1000 words) of how the applicant intends to integrate new content into the existing course structure and learning objectives.
