The Southeast Asian and ASEAN Studies (SEAS) Program housed in the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies is pleased to announce Course Development Grants for the creation or revision of upper-level (300- or 400-level) undergraduate courses that include significant (50% or more) content related to any aspect of Southeast Asian studies, including Southeast Asian diaspora populations.
Funding for these grants is generously provided by the Center for the Study of Global Change.
Grant Details
- Purpose: These grants support the creation or revision of upper-level undergraduate courses aimed at expanding curricular offerings in Southeast Asian studies by integrating content related to Southeast Asia into disciplinary programs or existing faculty expertise.
Grant recipients must demonstrate a commitment to teaching the proposed course on a regular basis (at least once every two years).
- Content Requirement: Courses must include 50% or more Southeast Asian content, broadly construed. Course proposals focused on diaspora populations in the United States must include at least 25% international or global content.
- Grant Amount: Instructors will receive $2,000.
- $1,000 will be disbursed via faculty research account upon selection.
- The remaining $1,000 will be disbursed after the submission of the completed syllabus.
SEAS expects to award a total of two grants.
- Eligibility: Open to all tenured and tenure-track faculty and permanent lecturers teaching in any discipline in the College of Arts and Sciences, including in the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design; the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies; and the Media School. We welcome applications from faculty currently engaged in Southeast Asian studies as well as from those working in adjacent areas who wish to expand their expertise to include Southeast Asia.

- A 300-word course summary
- Statement of up to 1500 words describing:
- Anticipated course objectives, including student learning outcomes
- Potential readings and/or assignments, projects, or other learning activities
- For existing courses: the course number and title into which Southeast Asian content will be integrated, the enrollment cap, and how the applicant intends to integrate the new content into the existing course structure
- A brief letter of support from the department chair confirming a commitment to schedule the class.
- Applicants intending to redesign an existing course should include a recent syllabus.
