Southeast Asian and ASEAN Studies is a brand new program at IU with a broad range of courses in language, literature and culture. Our classes feature high faculty-student ratios, providing ample opportunity to work closely with individual faculty members and get to know fellow students. We currently offer a minor in Southeast Asian and ASEAN Studies that allows students to explore a broad range of topics relating to Southeast Asia.
Southeast Asian and ASEAN Studies Offers:
- Excellent Language Education: Our instructors have the latest training in language pedagogy, and with a maximum of 15 students per class, and our Thai language courses are now offered 100% online
- Many Courses: Southeast Asian Studies offers a wide range of courses in a variety of related topics. We also teach elementary levels of Indonesian and Thai languages.
- Many Overseas Opportunities: IU runs an outstanding summer program in Indonesia where students have the opportunity to fully imerse themselves in the regional language and culture. In addition, several departments at IU offer multiple opportunities to travel to SE Asian destinations such as Vietnam and Malaysia.
- Many Extracurriculars: We host weekly coffee hours in our wing of the School of Global and International Studies, where students are invited to come and study with their peers. Additionally, we also sponsor at least two movie screenings per year, and special events like career and study abroad orientation sessions, holiday parties, and field trips.
