Kaung (Woody) Myat graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English in 2011 and a master's degree in English Literature and Linguistics in 2015, both from Yadanabon University in Mandalay, Myanmar.
He worked as a teacher trainer at the Sagaing University of Education, Myanmar and taught English teaching methodologies and English Language Proficiency to prospective teachers in Myanmar for over four years. While there, he was selected as a youth leader of the Myanmar contingent for the 43rd Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Progra and served as a cultural ambassador for Myanmar. He has also taught at Lashio University and Shwebo University in Myanmar.
Due to the political situation in Myanmar, he joined the Civil Disobedience Movement and left his job in May 2021. In August 2021, he joined IU as a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant for the 2021-2022 academic year and has continued to teach Burmese at IU, Bloomington since. Outside the classroom, his interests include hiking, reading, and exploring new places.
